EXPERIENCE THE BEAUTY AND HISTORY OF JEFFERSONIAN VIRGINIA,
THE 21ST CENTURY WAY

About the JHT & Upcoming Events
JEFFERSON’S JOURNEY
Explore Jefferson’s passions, and find yours. Thomas Jefferson left his mark on the arts, architecture, education, and especially on the wines of Central Virginia. Inspired by his contribution to the growth of the modern American wine industry, the Jefferson Heritage Trail honors his legacy while creating an exciting journey for all who visit.
Traveling the Trail. While Monticello is the recognized mainstay of Jefferson’s work, Poplar Forest was his much-loved private retreat. In his travels between home and retreat, Jefferson would have traversed the countryside between what is now Route 29 and the James River. Today, businesses along this route remain committed to the ideals Jefferson exemplified throughout his life. The Jefferson Heritage Trail emerges as the link between Jefferson’s two homes, a way to honor the past, and translate his vision for the country into the future.
From wine to food, history to music, hospitality and recreation, the Jefferson Heritage Trail encourages the exploration and discovery of the vast array of activities and attractions that the region has to offer.
